Horseshoe Bay Death Match 3000
I flew into Seattle where Mom and Sonny picked up the lil rabbit and his bikeo. Off to Brents in the gas guzzler. Viewed some fireworks via bikes with Brent and Alex aka "Heavy Hitter" then stayed up till midnight assembling my dh machine with plans of attack. On the road at 5 I headed into SuperNaturalBritishColombia after a stop in Bellingham for groceries and petrol. The drive was awesome as I rocked to some ressurected tapes such as Bruce Springsteens hits, NOFX "I heard they suck live", Slapshot "Live at SO36", Cock Sparrer, Conception Records Sampler, and a punk comp Pete made for me. Tapes...I've got some good ones and I think I might go back to them for awhile.
Driving thru Vancouver was awesome. With the exception of traffic the place is beautiful. It's one helluva diverse place and the ladies are very pretty in a natural sort of way. Onto Whistler I viewed the progress along the "Sea-to-Sky" highway and what an engineering marvel it is. Surely a billion dollar project at least. I arrived around 10:30 to rainy 60degree conditions and was ready to rock the party. I geared up and met a couple of guys from RideMonkey at the lift and started to get muddy. After a few runs the rain really started and it got pretty wet. I opted for the slower tech trails like Angry Pirate, Karate Monkey, Schleyer, and Rock City. I thought to myself that if this was how it was gonna start out this would probably be a very fun time. There was a mud puddle on Shleyer that was such a hoot! After coming off of a drop and having to do a bit of a wall ride on a rock you shoot straight back down into the woods via a corner. Right where you come back into the woods was a pedal deep puddle that you could just anhililate upon entry. Can you say mud bath?! Sunday it dried up and got really nice. I started to ride the upper mountain which was still pretty dicey as it had some run off spots that held alot of water and were still pretty sketch. I met a couple of guys at the lift that I stayed with last year and suddenly had a condo to crash in for the next 4days....STOKED! I felt relaxed, fast, comfortable, and very happy. By Wednesday I had ridden every single trail with the exception of CrackAddict and the middle section of "Whistler DH". I had a blast riding everything on upper mountain and hit everything that I knew of and discovered. I even rolled "The Manager" off of No Joke. There was a group of California dudes there and we were all scoping it out and I said "I'm goin for it". It was steep and I was pretty much riding vertical on my front wheel long enough to feel my heart coming out of my throat. Stoked as I looked back to see the Cali guys go for it but they decided to pass it up. All in all this was the best Whistler trip out of 6years of going there that I have had yet. Can't wait for all my AZ riding buddies to come up with me next year as that was the one thing lacking. Having my homies along. Whistler Village is an awesome place and I reccomend the veggie samosas at the grocery store, 23steps for dinner, any coffee shop that isn't Starbucks, the skinnies in the woods by the river for end of day beer/ride session, and http://www.fanatykco.com/ for parts(there was about 12-15 Fox DHX rears in the case for between $200-$250!! For Whistler that is one helluva deal!). Get some!
On the way home I had Ron from North Carolina riding shotgun so I decided to hit up Mt. Seymour on the way home for an attempt at riding redemption from last years botched attempt at riding Boogieman. I rode CBC and took a right where I shoulda took a left and f-ed it up once again. What was supposed to be a nice long ride down epic stunts turned into a xc ride to the Seymour River. Once there I called Ron from a bus stop and had him come scoop me up. I was tired so I guess thats a good enough excuse. It then took us 3friggin hours to get outta Canada as we drove in a big u on the way out. Finally back to Washington and a day off for rest on Friday. On this trip I was able to see a ton of my family. I racked up 5bbq's, 3nights out drinking, 1bike ride with Britt Rock, 2 Tiger rides, 1 ride on a top secret downhill/stunt trail near my old fishing hole at the Snoqualmie River guided by this dude I met randomly outside Tullys Coffee Shop, 1 Mom and Sons dinner, 1 68 Honda motorcycle rescue, West Seattle Midnight Bike Mission with Taage, Colonade shred session, Green River R&R attempt, 1 Point Defiance "5mile Drive" hike, and 1 day with my Grandma driving her to appointments. A damn good vacation I can honestly say. At the airport I was escorted directly to the front of the security line cause im a stud. Actually I was a lil late and had to sort out gettin my bikes on the plane. Why is it cheaper to fly my bikes back with me than ship them thru the company I work for even with an employee discount?! DHL.....thats the question. Glad to be back in Arizona and the only carnage I came back to was some a-hole knocking down a 10foot section of my block wall, a letter from the city about my weeds, and a house with only one heartbeat.
